on the way to thinking what is given.
Né à Bruxelles en 1957, Ado Huygens, après avoir terminé des études gréco-latines, entreprend une licence et agrégation en psychologie clinique qu’il solde avec distinction et sans encombre. De parents bilingues, il maîtrise le français (C2), le néerlandais (B2) et s’exprime en anglais avec aisance (B2). Il comprend et lit l’allemand (A2). Passionné par l’art, la danse, le mime et l’expression corporelle, il décide en 1983 de suivre une formation parisienne en chorégraphie et mise en scène qu’il réussit, lui permettant en 1984 de créer un spectacle en Egypte sur la mer rouge.
Dès la fin de cette même année, il désire mener à bien un projet qui favorise la synergie entre la psychologie, l’art, la créativité et l’épanouissement de l’être humain. Sa vision est trop pionnière pour s’inscrire dans un cadre déjà établi. Il achète un petit château dans les Ardennes et œuvrera durant près de quinze années en ce sens tout en se formant inlassablement :
- Somatothérapies et Somatanalyse reprenant toutes les grandes techniques corporelles (Dr. Meyer et Dr Zaruchas Paris). Il devient vice-président de l’Association Internationale de Somatothérapie et président fondateur de l’Association Belge (1992-1995)
- Hypnose Ericksonnienne ( Linden – Goldstone USA) Il devient président de la Société Belge d’hypnose de langue française (2002-2009)
- Thérapie Brève (Watzlawick – Weakland USA)
– Haptonomie (Frans Veldman Junior Hollande)
- Daseinsanalyse et Phénoménologie clinique Sous la direction des Pr. Jonckheere, Pr. Schotte Belgique ; Pr. Maldiney France…) ( Il devient président de la fédération internationale de Daseinsanalyse en 2012).
En 1996, il décide de quitter les Ardennes pour regagner Bruxelles afin de s’initier à la philosophie et approfondir la phénoménologie clinique en doctorant auprès des Pr. Schotte, Kinable, Dupuis et Maldiney. Le Pr. Jonckheere, fondateur du groupe de phénoménologie clinique, prenant sa retraite, lui transmet en 1997 le flambeau. Il fonde en 1998 avec des confrères philosophes et psychiatres le Centre et l’Ecole Belge de Daseinsanalyse. Il défend en 2003 sa thèse de doctorat « Être et Présence : conditions de possibilité de toute psychothérapie » et obtient la plus grande distinction. Il organise une formation à la Daseinsanalyse sous forme de séminaires et de soirées lectures.
Il retravaille sa thèse, médite ses concepts fondamentaux et refond son écriture en un livre qui paraît en novembre 2008 chez Encre Marine « Penser l’existence, exister la pensée… de l’humanitude, de l’amour au jour de la phénoménologie clinique ».
En 2009, Il organise à Bruxelles le VII forum de l’« International Federation of Daseinsanalysis dont il devient le vice-président, puis président en 2012.
En 2004, Lucien Lemaire désire créer au sein de l’université d’Aix en Provence un DESU en coaching où s’entrelacent pratique, réflexion, diverses perspectives théoriques et travail personnel. Il fait appel à Ado Huygens pour y enseigner la phénoménologie clinique : un lustre de collaboration intense et fructueuse dont les étudiants témoignent dans leur évaluation de fin d’année. 65 h. de cours reprenant la pensée philosophique de Husserl, de Heidegger pour l’entrelacer à celle clinique de Binswanger, de Kimura et esthétique de Maldiney ; entrelacs dynamisé par des cas cliniques et mises en situation.
Depuis fin des années nonante, Ado Huygens reconnaît en certains de ses patients une différence fondatrice qu’il n’aura de cesse de mieux comprendre. Identifiés sous des termes multiples et variés - toujours insatisfaisants – tels que surdoués, haut potentiel, douance…, ils demeurent livrés à leur sort, souvent en proie à leur intelligence, paradoxalement démunis. Au fil et dans l’écart de leurs présences, Ado Huygens leur déploiera un nouvel horizon de compréhension et leur proposera le monde de l’art moderne et l’avènement du sublime. Il forge le concept d’ « aliénation visionnaire ». Il organise des voyages et des séminaires afin d’éveiller leur conscience au contact de l’expression artistique sous toutes ses formes. Spécialiste de l’art moderne, il les accompagne et les guide dans les lieux les plus remarquables : Le Centre contemporain Georges Pompidou et le musée d’art moderne à Paris, La fondation Beyeler et la Kunsthalle à Bâle, La Neue National galerie, L’Hamburger Bahnhof et la Fondation Boros à Berlin, Les Guggenheim de New-York et Bilbao, Les Musées d’art moderne MOMA de New-York et San Francisco dont la fondation Young, les Tate Modern et Britain de Londres, le Leopold museum et musée d’art moderne de Vienne, La Fondation Getty à Los Angeles, le Stedelijk Museum d'Amsterdam, la fondation Voorlinden de Wassenaar, le musée XXI de Kanazawa, la collection Pinault à Venise ( Palazzo Grassi et Punta Del Dogana) et Paris ( Bourse du Commerce)
L’Extrême-Orient joue dans sa vie un rôle capital. Ses voyages en Chine et au Japon, son initiation à la cérémonie du thé – Chanoyu, la lecture des taoïstes, sa rencontre avec Bernard Stevens et la pensée japonaise - Nishida, Nishitani -, sa collaboration avec Kitanodai (association japonaise culturelle) dirigée par Yoichiro Iguchi Sensei lui permettent d’éprouver et pratiquer non seulement les fondements de la Daseinsanalyse, de la phénoménologie mais aussi ce mouvement dynamique qui transcende la performance vers le déploiement de l’excellence. Le Japon devient « sa retraite herméneutique » où il se rend chaque année pour se ressourcer ou animer des séminaires. En 2012, il accepte de devenir metteur en scène du Gagaku afin d’en favoriser la compréhension dans les pays occidentaux. « Miyabi » ( élégance propre à la cour impériale) naît de cette collaboration : une soirée déployant l’âme japonaise mettant en scène 4 danseurs et 14 musiciens proposant chants, musique et danses traditionnelles remontant à l’époque Heian. Une première mondiale est présentée au Bozar à Bruxelles le 23 janvier 2016.
Il peaufine depuis 2009 l’écriture d’un roman – essai philosophique « De braise et de brume : cheminement de l’intime ».
En 2013, il crée avec le Dr. Sylvain DAL, psychiatre, chef de service à la clinique St Jean de Bruxelles, un séminaire intra-hospitalier de Daseinsanalyse et phénoménologie clinique.
Il a animé de 2004 à 2017 tous les jeudi un séminaire « Initiation à la pensée et à un art de vivre » au cœur de la communauté juive.
Son cheminement aboutit en 2014 au fondement de sa pensée : «L’entre-trois existential©» qu’il présente dans de nombreuses universités - Vienne, Prague, Paris - et congrès de psychiatrie et psychothérapie et qui est publié dans le journal français de psychiatrie. Il enseigne à l'université de Prague depuis 2012 la phénoménologie clinique, la daseinsanalyse, l'avènement de l'art, la pensée japonaise, la daseinsanalytik. Il y devient professeur ordinaire en 2017.
Il met en scène en 2018 l'inauguration de l'institut Lusatto-Fédier. Il y devient la même année "Conseiller Général" pour démissionner fin 2020
En 2020, il crée un podcast qu'il intitule : " Quatre séjours d'une matrice de pensée ".
En 2021, en collaboration avec l'université d'Izmir et le Pr. Metin Bal, il organise une série de séminaires de deux mois, à chaque fois pour 7 étudiants, d'introduction à la Daseinsanalyse en vue d'une formation complète.
En 2021, il publie un livre aux éditions Samsa " George Arthur Forrest, fragilité et pouvoir d'un être hors norme en terre africaine " qui s'inscrit au-delà d'une bibliographie dans un essai existentiel : sonder les zones d'ombre et de lumière de cet homme d'affaire pour le moins méconnu.
Il commence en 2021 l'écriture ultime de son cheminement de vie, de sa pensée :
" Pourquoi y a-t-il quelque chose et pourtant toujours rien? Questionnement clinique en résonance-dissonance heideggérienne, artistique et japonaise".
En 2022, il organise un espace d'écriture et de méditation de la parole pour 15 personnes qui donnera naissance à un livre-recueil en mars 2023. " TRACE" édité chez BoD.
En janvier 2023, il passe le relais de la direction du centre et de l'école belge de Daseinsanalyse au Dr. Sylvain DAL et en devient le président d'honneur. Il se consacre désormais à sa fondation privée ArtDo.
Born in Brussels in 1957, Ado Huygens, after completing Greco-Latin studies, began a master's degree and aggregation in clinical psychology, which he passed with distinction and without hindrance. Of bilingual parents, he masters French (C2), Dutch (B2) and speaks fluently in English (B2). He understands and reads German (A2). Fascinated by art, dance, mime and body expression, he decided in 1983 to follow a Parisian training in choreography and staging that he succeeded, allowing him in 1984 to create a show in Egypt on the Red Sea.
From the end of the same year, he wanted to carry out a project that promotes the synergy between psychology, art, creativity and the development of the human being. His vision is too pioneering to be part of an already established framework. He buys a small castle in the Ardennes and will work for nearly fifteen years in this direction while continually training:
- Somatotherapy and Somatanalysis integrating all the major body techniques (Dr. Meyer and Dr. Zaruchas Paris). He became vice-president of the International Association of Somatotherapy and has founded the Belgian Association which he was the president (1992-1995)
- Ericksonnian Hypnosis (Linden – Goldstone USA) He became president of the Belgian Society of hypnosis (2002-2009)
- Brief Therapy (Watzlawick – Weakland USA)
- Haptonomy (Frans Veldman Junior Holland)
- Daseinsanalysis and clinical phenomenology under the direction of Prof. Jonckheere, Prof. Schotte Belgium; Pr. Madiney France...) (he became president of the International Federation of Daseinsanalyse in 2012).
In 1996, he decided to leave the Ardennes to return to Brussels in order to learn about philosophy and to deepen the clinical phenomenology as a PhD student with Prof. Schotte, Kinable, Dupuis and Maldiney. Prof. Jonckheere, founder of the clinical Phenomenology group, retiring, handed him the torch. He founded in 1998 with fellow philosophers and psychiatrists the Centre and the Belgian School of Daseinsanalysis. In 2003 he defended his doctoral thesis "Being and presence: conditions of possibility of any psychotherapy" and obtained the greatest distinction. He organizes a Daseinsanalysis’ s training in the form of seminars, evenings readings and residential weekends.
He reworked his thesis, meditated his fundamental concepts and refunded his writing in a book that appeared in November 2008 at “ Encre Marine : Penser l’existence, exister la pensée” (to think existence, to exist the thought).
In 2009, he organized in Brussels the VII Forum of the International Federation of Daseinsanalysis of which he became the Vice-President, then president in 2012.
In 2004, Lucien Lemaire wanted to create within the University of Aix en Provence a DESU in coaching which intertwines practice, reflection, various theoretical perspectives and personal work. He calls on Ado Huygens to teach clinical phenomenology: an intense and fruitful collaboration that students testify to in their year-end evaluation. His 65 hours of class resumed the philosophical thinking of Husserl and Heidegger to interlace it with that clinical of Binswanger, Kimura and aesthetics of Maldiney. This more theoretical approach was boosted by clinical cases.
Since the end of the Nineties, Ado Huygens has recognized in some of his patients a founding difference that he will never cease to deepen. Identified in multiple and varied terms-always unsatisfactory-such as gifted, high potential, ..., they are left to their fate, often plagued by their intelligence, paradoxically deprived. Disclosing their presence, Ado Huygens will give them a new horizon of understanding and offer them the world of modern art and the advent of the sublime. He forged the concept of "visionary alienation". He organizes trips and seminars to awaken their consciousness in contact with artistic expression in all its forms. As a specialist in modern art, he accompanies them and guides them in the most remarkable places: the Contemporary Center Georges Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Beyeler Foundation and the Kunsthalle in Basel, the Neue National Galerie, the Hamburger Bahnhof and the Boros Foundation in Berlin, the Guggenheims of New York and Bilbao, the MOMA Museums of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco including the Young Foundation, the Tate Modern of London, the Leopold Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna, the Getty Foundation in Los Angeles, Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, The Voorlinden Foundation of Wassenaar, the Pinault Collection in Paris and Venice...
The Far East plays a vital role in its life. His travels in China and Japan, his initiation to the tea ceremony – Chanoyu, the reading of the Taoists, his meeting with Pr. Bernard Stevens and the Japanese thought -Nishida, Nishitani-, his collaboration with Kitanodai (Japanese Cultural association) led by Yoichiro Iguchi Sensei allow him to experience and practice not only the basement of Daseinsanalysis, phenomenology but also this dynamic movement that transcends the performance towards the unfolding of excellence. Japan becomes "his hermeneutics dwelling" he visits each year to animate seminars. In 2012, he agreed to become Stage director of Gagaku in order to promote its understanding in Western countries. "Miyabi" (Elegance peculiar to the imperial court) is born from this collaboration: a performance unfolding the Japanese soul featuring 4 dancers and 14 musicians proposing traditional songs, music and dances dating back to the Heian period. A world premiere is presented at the Bozar in Brussels on 23 January 2016.
Since 2009, he has refined the writing of a novel – a philosophical essay "Of Embers and Haze: The Journey of Intimacy".
In 2013, he created with Dr. Sylvain DAL, psychiatrist, head of department at the Clinique St Jean in Brussels, an intra-hospital seminar of Daseinsanalysis and clinical phenomenology as well supervision sessions.
He led from 2004 to 2017 every Thursday a seminar "Initiation to Thinking through an art of living" in the Belgian Jewish community.
Since 2011, he organizes a 6-day summer seminar in a monastery or in a cultural city on an ever-new theme: the limit experience, the link, the donation of the phenomenon, what means thinking, the Japanese resonance (Institut Lussato), the question of being by Martin Heidegger, a life course: Henri Maldiney (Alsace), the conversion of the gaze, the evolution of art (in Berlin), From Utopia to Eutopia ( Biennale of Venice)...
In 2014, he forged the core of this thought: "The threefold existential in-between " which he presents in many universities - Vienna, Prague, Paris - and Congresses of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and published in the French Psychiatric Journal.
Since 2012, he teaches at the University of Prague clinical phenomenology, Daseinsanalysis, the Event of art, Japanese thought, the Heideggerian Thought. He became an ordinary teacher in 2017.
In 2018, he staged with the Japanese Gagaku Ensemble the inauguration of the Institut Lusatto-Fédier. He becomes the same year " General Advisor". He dismissed end 2020.
In 2021, in partnership with Izmir University and Pr. Dr. Metin BAL, he leads a two months seminar for 7 students for the purpose of a comprehensive training in Daseinsanalysis in 2023
In 2021, he published a book with Samsa editions "George Arthur Forrest, fragility and power of an extraordinary being in African soil" which goes beyond a bibliography in an existential essay: probing the shadow areas and light from this businessman.
In 2021, he begins the ultimate writing of his life's journey, of his thought: "Why is there something and yet always nothing? Clinical questioning in Heideggerian, artistic and Japanese resonance-dissonance".
In 2022, he organised a writing and meditation space for 15 people, which gave rise to a book in March 2023. "TRACE" published by BoD.
In January 2023, he hands over the management of the Center and of the Belgian School of Daseinsanalysis to Dr. Sylvain DAL and becomes its Honorary President.
